Hot Florida Surfing Spots!

Florida surfing is a popular sport for amateurs and professionals alike. Our state has produced many champions like; Kelly Slater, C.J. and Damien Hobgood, Todd Morcom and Cory Lopez. These pros have helped put many of our beaches on the surfing map.

Central Florida/Atlantic Coast:

Sebastian Inlet: The area is best known for the most consistent waves, beautiful surroundings, and mild weather. The Inlet is also home to many surfing contests. 1st Peak is a favorite of professionals and very talented surfers, probably not the best place for a beginner.

Head north and enjoy more Florida surfing right off  A1A:

Indian Harbour Beach: Check out Tomahawk Drive.

Satellite Beach: the locals like RC’s in front of the Ramada Inn.

Melbourne Beach: Spessard Holland Park & Spanish House; on the southern tip of Melbourne.

Cocoa Beach:
You don’t have to be a pro to surf here. The whole family can take a crack at the sport. There are many great surf shops and schools that offer classes, surfboard rentals, camps and clinics.

Favorites of my son’s are Cocoa Beach Surf Company & Ron John Surf Shop. While going to school in Orlando, he and friends used to zip over on the Beach Line Expressway, rent boards; surf, soak up the sun and wonderful ocean air, and then head back to school.

This is a also a great getaway for those of you who are visiting theme parks in Orlando, and want to enjoy more of the “real” Florida! Read here for  more family fun on our awesome Florida beaches.

The Gulf Coast: also offers many great spots for Florida surfing. We’ve seen surfers in our travels at Venice Beach, Treasure Island, St. Pete Beach and even Clearwater Beach. The waters are usually pretty calm here on the Gulf of Mexico, but our hurricane season can really kick up the waves. The peak of the storm season is normally September through November. And when the cold fronts of winter arrive, the surfers are always ready for a great swell!
